#ROW80 Checkin – This is the reason all bets are off.

Meet Mickey. He’s a little cavoodle (and I always said I would never do small dogs), and he’s lost me a total of 15 hours sleep over the past three days. He’s 13 weeks old, is reasonably good at toileting, but not very good at being left to his own devices, or sleeping alone. He came at a time when the whole family has also succumbed to another rapid cold doing the rounds of Sydney. He’s grumpy, whiny, and often sleepy.

He’s also kinda cute, but cuteness will only get him so far. At the moment it’s a battle of wits, and he seems to be winning.

Mickey’s arrival in the family and writing studio as my fulltime writing companion this week has – at the moment, stopped me from being able to write or focus on editing. But that’s okay. At the start of the week I took the reality leap of finally realising revision and editing is going to take me much much longer than I ever planned for. But I don’t want to publish too early, until I’ve done my darnedest to learn about the revision and self-editing process, and taken it out to betas etc for more feedback. I have therefore decided not to publish an estimation date on finishing the thing – as painful as all the rewrites are, my first novel debut will be as ready as it needs to be.

Meanwhile, I continue to grab occasional hours of lucidness, and work on my second – third rewrites and checks. Life isn’t so bad.

Yes, this is a day early as a ROW80 checkin. Or several days late for last Wednesday. Mickey arrived on Wednesday. That’s all that needs to be said.

  1. What a cutie. My rider instructor always said she’d never do little dogs either, but now she can’t imagine having anything else in the house. She’s in love with the non-shedding factor (it was the main selling point for her) and that they can use the litter box. You’ll get through the puppy phase, is just takes time. Good luck to both of you!
